My name is polytropic and I am very pleased to meet you! If you've stumbled upon this journal by accident somehow, be aware that it is solely for the purposes of participating in fandom-related pursuits. I do, in fact, have a real life in which I do real-life things; those things do not appear here. Things you will encounter include and are pretty much limited to fan-fiction and fan-meta.

A bit about me, in case anyone is curious: I'm an academic at heart but not in trade, I spend a lot of time reading when I should be sleeping, and I'm actually very bad at using the internet successfully. My pronouns are "they/them" and I'm happy to talk to you about why if you're confused or curious.

Please be advised that the fiction in this journal may contain adult content and/or triggering material. All individual pieces will have every single trigger warning that I think might apply (based on the AO3 list of triggers), and you're also free to message me to ask about anything in particular.

If you find something in my work problematic, please bring it up! I'm open to dialogue and analysis. I acknowledge that sometimes in the pursuit of fiction, I may fail to respect and do justice to people's identities and experiences; if that occurs I would massively prefer that someone call me out on it so that I can fix it.

I think that's all the housekeeping. Onwards to fiction!

As of right now, the fandoms that this journal covers are Avengers (2012), Inception (2010), Grimm (NBC 2011), Teen Wolf (MTV 2010) and Whip It (2009), but expect that list to expand without warning. If you have something you think I'd like, please recommend it to me! I only started watching video-based media a couple of years ago so I have a lot of catching up to do.

It's [personal profile] cherrybina's birthday! Happy birthday, I wrote you really angry, intensely blasphemous porn.

Title: In Equal Ruin
Fandom: Paradise Lost
Pairing: Lucifer/Satan
Rating: R
Warnings: Religious themes and imagery including damnation and blasphemy (like, a lot), some D/s, exhibitionism
Summary: Basically this is just the start of Book I with sex added in. Which, to be honest, was pretty much the way I read it in the original. I'm so glad I never had to discuss this in an academic context, I would have been so awkwardly turned on.

What though the field be lost? )

Told you it was only a matter of time before I caved and wrote something for this fandom. As usual, this is depressing and vaguely metaphysical. Don't blame me, blame Jeff Davis: if this show gave me fewer feels I could just write silly pack!fic and be done with it.

Title: Become Like They Are
Fandom: Teen Wolf (MTV)
Pairing: None
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Mentions of canon character deaths, bereavement, discussion of religious/spiritual/philosophical aspects of death I guess?
Summary: Peter Hale is back from the dead and more annoying than ever. Stiles wants to know why.

Also the title is from Don't Fear the Reaper, idek, I couldn't think of anything )

So I have a Tumblr account now? It kind of confuses me and I don't really, uh, quite get what I'm supposed to do with it. But if you have one you should come be my friend! By which I think I mean follow me.
polytropic_liar: (lydia is so pretty when she hallucinates)
So apparently I watch this show now. Go figure. Apparently I also rec fiction? I don't know, this is basically a way for me to put these here where I can't lose them. But if you read them and like them you should tell me!

Show You All What the Howl Is For by skoosiepants. Stargate: Atlantis plus Teen Wolf! Seems like a worse idea than it is, mostly because the author has a great command of language and pacing, and because everyone is beautifully in-character. The dialogue made me laugh so hard I got a cramp.

As We Sail It by iontehsparrow. Really nice picture of what the pack's lives might be like in five or so years. Lydia, obviously, has pretty much taken over the world by then. I liked the subtlety and maturity of emotion in this, it rang really true to the characters while also adding a lot more complexity.

We Should Become More Adventurous
by skoosiepants. A very sweet AU where Derek has a kid, "anger management" is code for "werewolf", and there are kittens. Like I said, I really like this author's language and pacing.

Bread Crumbs
by GoddessofBirth. Stiles finds out about Kate. A short little coda to the end of Season 1 that was really emotionally striking for me. (HUGE triggers for discussion of statutory rape, so tread carefully.) And while you're at it the whole series of vignettes the author has going are pretty awesome.

The Inside Job, by alocalband. Lydia wakes up an alpha. She's awesome at it because she's better than you. I love Lydia, but I mostly like this fic because the ending is pretty much porn for my insomnia.

I Know I'm a Mess You Don't Want to Clean Up
by lielabell. ERICA JUST LET ME LOVE YOU. The author describes this as fix-it fic, and it really is, since Erica's character in the show is alternately horrifying and compelling for me. I would actually have loved to see this go further, and see Erica really come into her own as a mature werewolf-lady, but it's pretty awesome as it is. Love the narration voice.

I'll probably write things of my own for this fandom eventually, because I have no self-control or attention span. If I do, this journal is where they'll be, so, uh, stay tuned?

polytropic_liar: (avengers)
I have a hard time writing Captain America. I figured I'd ease into it by writing him asleep.

Title: What Dreams May Come
Fandom: Avengers (Marvel 2012)
Pairing: None
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Real-world historical trauma (Atom bomb, war, the last seventy years of history)
Summary: Seventy years asleep makes for some mighty strange dreams.

I might write meta at some point. I will definitely write fic. And lots of that fic will be about the OTTeam and their happy fun times...but I need to get some Loki stuff off my chest first.

Title: Conviction
Fandom: Avengers
Pairing: None
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers for the movie, death of a major character, mind control, mass murder, FEELINGS
Summary: Loki makes me want to write all of the self-indulgent cosmic sulking and then follow it up with hugs. That's basically what this is only the hugs are sad too.

Title: Paperwork is Hard
Fandom: NBC's Grimm
Pairing: None
Rating: G
Warnings: Bad grammar?
Summary: From a prompt on the kink meme: Usually Renard would say he has the best and brightest detectives a captain could wish for. When it comes to paperwork, however, he swears he's surrounded by a bunch of idiots who can't read a simple instruction.
Also: The amazing krapivka37 has translated this into Russian! Go here to see.

My life is officially On Hold right now thanks to work. I'm just gonna write these down in a place where I can't lose them so that I can remember to pick them up in 3-4 days when I'm allowed to do things I enjoy again.

Things I'm in the middle of

-that Grimm fic where Barry is a jerk and kind of brainwashed (Link)
-that Inception fic where Ariadne and Mal pwn Arthur in like 121 different ways (lost this link once already...)
-the coda to Tam Lin with Monroe being Dad #2 and Nick being kind of fucked up

Things I am planning to write
-Grimm tattoo rituals! (don't lose this)
-Grimm superpowers! (don't lose this either)
-the other superheroes thing
-that Inception fic where they extract from a trans woman
-Stuff for the Grimm fluff/porn fest!

Title: to whom he should kneel
Fandom: NBC's Grimm
Pairing: Male!Adalind/Renard
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Lots of D/s, genderswapped AU
Summary: From a prompt on the kink meme that was apparently from a conversation in the general discussion post (I know, I'm confused too): Blond knockout Aidan Schade, who knows to whom he should kneel.

Aidan Schade is too young to be a full partner, which is the only reason the name plate on his desk says  )
polytropic_liar: (grimm)
Title: Pacific Ocean Blue
Fandom: NBC's Grimm
Pairing: Monroe/Nick
Rating: NC-17-ish
Warnings: Mild sensory deprivation kink (wetsuits)
Summary: From the kink meme: Nick and Monroe go to the beach!

And it's cold and full of rocks.  )
polytropic_liar: (grimm)
Title: How Nick Paid For Law School
Fandom: NBC's Grimm
Pairing: Monroe/Nick (AU)
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: prostitution, age difference, mention of but no actual underage, some D/s (marking, manhandling, bossiness)
Summary: From the kink meme: The lifestyle Monroe's chosen is a lonely one and he sometimes needs companionship. He finds that with rentboy!Nick.

Your nice, run-of-the-mill AU where Nick is a law student and Monroe pays him for sex.  )
polytropic_liar: (whipit)
Title: Here's Your Dress Back
Fandom: Whip It!
Pairing: Mostly Amber-centric gen, with a bit of Bliss/Maven
Rating: PG-13?
Warnings: Societal pressures and how they're not kind to any of us.
Summary: So [personal profile] architect hosted a watch-party of the movie "Whip It!" which is full of really pretty women and people getting slammed into walls. Instead of writing anything about any of the main pairings, I was inexplicably captivated by one of the very minor side characters. So I wrote something for her.

polytropic_liar: (Default)
Title: Monsters
Fandom: Inception
Pairing: Araidne/Cobb, Arthur/Eames
Rating: R
Warnings: Gore, violence, possible emotional triggers (persecution, low self-esteem, anxiety).
Summary: The team's insecurities manifest as physical monsters in the dreamspace.

The mind is its own place, and in it self. Can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n. )
polytropic_liar: (Default)
Title: Memory
Fandom: Inception
Pairing: Arthur/Eames
Rating: R-ish?
Warnings: Brief mentions of past child abuse.
Summary: Arthur loses his memories. I wrote this in late 2010 for the kink meme and only just got around to putting it all together. It is still ridiculously unbeta'ed and shows clear signs of having been a WIP, so if you spot typos or errors or just badly-written things, feel free to point them out.

There's a fine line between memory and dreams, and sometimes dreams can be terribly destructive places. Sometimes, more than just the dreamworld gets lost.  )
polytropic_liar: (grimm)
Title: Piper
Fandom: NBC's Grimm
Pairing: Gen, Roddy-centric
Rating: Dark R
Warnings: Contemplation of dub-/non-con, contemplation of violence
Summary: From a prompt on the kink meme, It turns out that Roddy's violin can also control some creatures whose brains aren't done fully developing yet, so they're more susceptible. Such as children and teenagers. I saw this as a opportunity to explore some of the aspects of the Pied Piper of Hamelin story that the show kind of glossed over.

He knows, somehow, that if he puts that bow to those strings, something big and terrifying will come out. )
polytropic_liar: (grimm)
Title: Learn Something New Every Day
Fandom: NBC's Grimm
Pairing: Nick/Monroe
Rating: R/NC-17-ish
Warnings: Brief mention of excessive violence (serial murder), brief mention of real word situational trauma (genocide and colonization)
Summary: The prompt on the kink meme was: Grimms are not the center of the world. Not only Grimms collected stories; not only Germans have legends of men who can turn into beasts. I'm pretty sure the prompter wanted a story with only one non-Germanic folk creature, but I got over-excited about a chance to actually use my undergrad work in world mythologies.

So instead Nick learns a valuable lesson about cultural diversity, and Monroe learns a valuable lesson about getting to the sex already.  )
polytropic_liar: (grimm)
Title: Common Grounds
Fandom: NBC's Grimm
Pairing: Barry/girl!Roddy
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None
Summary: From a prompt on the kink meme: Barry tries to impress girl!Roddy with his money but ends up looking like a jackass. He figures out that he's got to try more unusual methods instead.

The new girl Ruby was really cute.  )

Fifty Bucks Well Spent
Fandom: NBC's Grimm
Pairing: Juliette/Nick
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: A tiny bit of D/s? Mentions of hegemonic ideals of masculinity.
Summary: I am so bad at pron, you guys, it is such a sad thing. But there was a pegging prompt on the kink meme and no one was filling it (badum-tsch!) so I did my best. Original prompt: Nick loves having Juliette inside just as much as he loves being inside of her.

Fifty Bucks Well Spent )
polytropic_liar: (grimm)
Title: Tam Lin
Fandom: NBC Grimm
Pairing: Juliette/Nick/preMonroe
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None I think? Unsafe handling of dangerous animals?
Summary: Fill for the kink meme, where the request was just something based on the Ballad of Tam Lin. I got very excited and possibly babbled something about ancient Scottish kingship rituals, Elizabeth Bear, and Juliette's hair. 4,000-some words later, Juliette and Monroe team up to fight crime, and Nick is the prettiest damsel in distress.

I forbid ye maidens all )
polytropic_liar: (grimm)

Title: Becoming
Fandom: Grimm
Pairing: Gen (with a nod towards Juliette/Nick and a bit of Juliete/Adalind that is mostly in my head)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Mentions of mental illness
Summary: Loosely based on a prompt from the kink meme that asked for creature!Juliette and unsuspecting Nick. I stretched it pretty far from the original, though: it's more like creature-and-unsuspecting!Juliette. With a side of she-and-Adalind-should-totally-make-out.

One day the cat happened to meet Mr. Fox in the woods, and because she thought to herself: He is so clever, experienced, and greatly respected in the world, she spoke to him in a friendly way. )
